For the second out-of-class event, I watched the movie “Into The Woods.” The film featured a mix of many fairy tales, but they were side stories and helped advance the main character's story. The fairy tales I recognized were Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. The main characters were the baker and the baker's wife, who were cursed with a spell. To reverse the spell and have a baby, they had to obtain items from the fairy tale's original characters such as a blood-red cloak or hair as yellow as corn. The movie was fun to watch, but I didn't realize it was based on the musical. Maybe there were too many songs in the movie, but I'm not a big fan of musicals. The message seemed to be that during life one should act sincerely and stick with one's friends and family. Life gets tough and challenges arise, but if you have a support system, it's much easier to overcome them. Say no to plagiarism. They changed their characters throughout the story to convey certain ingredients to the characters so that the witch could undo a spell. The baker seemed like a kind man with sincere ways of thinking, but he did actions that didn't seem normal to him. When he tried to get the red cloak, his first instinct was to steal it. When that didn't work, he apologized and lied to her as she begged. The baker believed that the relationship between his wife and the possibility of having a child was a sufficient reason to carry out such actions. He would not receive the cloak until he saved Little Red Riding Hood from the wolf. He acted from the inside and exemplified who he really was as a person. The baker even changed his personality with his wife throughout the story. He behaved in a self-centered manner by telling his wife that he was unable to find the necessary items and that she should return home. The wife stated during the trip that, "You're not the man who started it, it takes two of us." He was starting to notice a change in the way he acted, his actions weren't how he usually acted. As soon as she was deemed more useful by regaining her long blonde hair, the baker wanted her to continue her indecisive journey throughout history and showed the relationship between people's goals and how it affects the actions they take or how it can change the way in which they think. He was quickly adapting and adopting a false persona to fit in with his brainwashed colleagues. This way of acting happens every day. people will change how they think about fitting in or recovering certain items. Now, being in college, it is indisputably evident that these ideals are evident in high school. People are always pretending to be friendly to get access to homework answers, a ride home from practice, or even a piece of gum. It's not often that people's inner qualities are shown.
