Insecurity digs a hole in a person's heart, downplays their integrity, and builds up like plaque, hindering any kind of future growth. Just as the growth of every human being is stifled by insecurity within them, the United States as a whole suffers similarly from its enormous amount of insecurity. This lack of recognition of self-worth causes a frightening chain reaction; people tend to pursue wrong ideals, become corrupt and inevitably lead themselves to their own demise. Insecurity is a road to destruction, and America is accelerating down that road to dissolution. The dictionary definition of insecurity is: “uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence” (“Insecurity”, Oxford English Dictionary). If something is characterized by a feeling of anxiety and a lack of confidence, it seems obvious that nothing good can come of it. With any dictionary copy as proof, mankind has thus proclaimed insecurity as something negative; why then should we all continue to make others insecure or live ourselves in a state of insecurity? It makes no sense to see that one of the things America considers a bad flu, is actually one of the largest epidemics plaguing the United States. Insecurity in many cases is known as lack of self-esteem, and Self-esteem, as described by many psychologists, is very important. Kendra Cherry, a well-known writer, went on to quote psychotherapist Nathaniel Branden, best known for his work on the psychology of self-esteem, in her article, What is Self-Esteem? , saying:According to one definition (Braden, 1969), there are three key components of self-esteem:1.Self-esteem is an essential human need that is vital to su...... middle of paper ... .. .me, all those kids at school, so I follow the law of the majority", thus pointing the finger at how others were also the reason to blame for his insecurity. There are many songs, poems and works of art made as a way to ask for help like this song, which show how insecurity in America has become a horrible disease. Throughout history, literature has been used to tell the story of humanity, and when it comes to insecurity in America, many authors. they are not afraid to talk about it in their novels, although many of their characters are The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, Gatsby himself being one of the main examples of insecurity, throughout the book, we as readers see how much he does with his money for so many people just so he can make them like him..
