Students should be encouraged to work part-time. Nowadays, in the era of globalization, students are encouraged to have part-time jobs which will make them more knowledgeable in their future, teach them to become more independent and mature in real life. Although students have enough money to pay fees and are able to meet the necessities of life, we totally agree that part-time work should be encouraged because part-time work can give more benefits to students. According to King and Bannon (2002, p. 2), more than 50% of full-time students are employed and “nearly 46% of all full-time employed students work 25 hours or more.” As students work harder, they have less time to engage in campus life both inside and outside of the classroom. Many students like to have a part-time job. Their parents easily approve of this as they are said to gain experience by working. However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers their age worked to help their family due to poverty. However, they were actually eager to study and learn in school for their future. It wasn't the same as today's students, where they are more likely to compete with each other for jobs. Most students have part-time jobs and some plan to work. When we are in a fast food restaurant, supermarket or shop, there must be students working. Furthermore, students can gain a lot of experiences, students should be encouraged to work part-time because they can learn new skills and learn to manage their finances properly. First, part-time work is good for students because they can gain a lot of experiences that they cannot learn in the classroom because ... middle of paper ... to learn to face and solve their own problems before they enter the real world. They need to find a way to integrate study and work, for example they should simply create a systematic schedule that emphasizes time spent on work and tasks assigned by the teacher or lecturer. This will help students easily follow the created schedule so they can balance their time spent studying and working. And certainly, it is possible to establish a day of the week when family and peers gather together so that they can still maintain a good relationship. With a positive mindset and motivation, part-time work can be a great experience for students who can be useful and successful for the community, nation and country. Finally, they can use the experiences gained from part-time work and the skills they acquire to use in their future career.
