On his first night at school, as he slept, he began to dream of the night his crew died. Specifically himself and his partner in the dingy rescue in the middle of the night, his partner is obviously in extreme distress and Senior Chief Randall has stabbed his chest with what I believe is some type of medicine injector and could possibly inject epinephrine (a type of adrenaline) to maintain the speed and strength of blood flow until blood pressure increases, hopefully keeping them alive until help arrives and further measures are taken (quoted by 3 different rescuers quoted in the works cited). Yet despite his efforts, his partner still died. From the way Senior Chief Randall reacted, it can be assumed that this was not his first nightmare after the accident. The second symptom the Senior Chief has are flashbacks. During one scene they light a training rocket, several seconds after the rocket ignites he has to turn around because he starts having a flashback of the young man he tried to save by lighting his rocket and then he himself lights another one while he was waiting to be rescued . Not only does he appear to have flashbacks of the accident, but it appears that certain things, such as the glow, trigger the flashbacks causing mental distress and
