The “Mask” can be a symbol for two things: hidden and elegance. The uninvited figure wore a bloody mask that hid his identity and once the party guests attacked the figure, they found nothing behind the mask. Somehow, the figure was mysteriously hidden. The "Masque" can also be a symbol of elegance because the party was only for the rich and powerful. Furthermore, before Prince Prospero charged the figure, the figure walked gracefully and unhurriedly through each room until the seventh room. Furthermore, the “Red Death” is a symbol of suffering and death. For example, “…profuse bleeding at the pores, with dissolution” (Poe 3). This shows that the victim is in tremendous pain due to constant bleeding with the addition of the body falling apart. That chaos is followed by a slow, horror-filled, and inevitable death, as shown in the text: "And the whole attack, progress, and cessation of the disease were accidents of half an hour" (Poe 3).
