Topic > End This Depression Now by Paul Krugman - 1481

I. There are several issues that have been discussed in the book End This Depression Now by Paul Krugman and Changing Contours of Work: Jobs and Opportunities in the New Economy by Stephen Sweet and Peter Meiksins. The textbook offers a sociological analysis of the nature of work in the new economy, of the new opportunities also in this economy and of the challenges that many workers now face and, ultimately, how this changes the family lives of many. The book also discusses the new face of the workplace and work in general, which includes questions about inequality and discrimination. The book discussed job security, policies, and why workers are working longer hours than before or working in a 24/7 economy. Finally, the book talks about how to address all the challenges in this new economy and working environment. As such, the textbook is more focused on “work” in general. Krugman's book, however, is more all-encompassing and complete. Basically the theme of the two books is the same. Today's economy has changed the way people live and work. In the book Krugman discusses the problems we are facing today, including unemployment and its consequences. Similar to the textbook, it discussed the changing face of work, the workplace and the workforce. The lack of demand, as discussed in the textbook, is similar in the book in how it has changed the way workers work, are paid, and how they live. On the other hand, Krugman's book, once again, is more complete. The ongoing employment crisis, for example, is discussed at different levels. First, new graduates who are just entering the workforce suffer from a lack of good job opportunities. Ultimately, this will affect their careers for years to come... middle of paper...continued where the rich will have the power to abuse the market and create another economic crisis or depression. It is therefore necessary to look not only at the economic model but also at the way in which things are governed. Politics plays an important role in economic depression and will also play an important role in economic growth. Any long-term growth will depend on how the country is managed not only economically but also politically. It should be important to note that corruption in government is never good for the economy. Indeed, history shows that corruption leads the economy to crisis. To solve the problem of the economy you need two things: the right stimulus, as offered by the author, and the right policies and clean politics in Washington. With these, the country will be able to escape the depression it is in now.
