Nowadays, college students study in college and fight for their dreams. However, there is the condition that many of them do not know what they want to achieve. What they always do is follow in the footsteps of others and do what others have done. For example, many college students in India seek to learn engineering in universities because engineering is a popular occupation with a decent salary. Even though many of them don't like this field of study, they are forced to learn from their parents. There is an Indian film called Three Idiots which criticizes the above mentioned phenomenon. The director of Three Idiots portrayed three so-called silly students who follow their dreams and achieve their goals after working hard. The main character, Rancho, loves engineering but doesn't like the professor's educational methods, which are based only on memorization. The other two characters Farhan and Raju are not interested in engineering, but initially follow their parents' point of view to learn engineering, but then change their mind with Rancho and do what they really want. I think this movie is a good movie for those college students who are forced to learn what they don't like. Not only does it show the negative aspects of educational stereotypes, especially memorization, but it also explains the importance of being yourself rather than simply doing what others do. This film can be considered an examination of the education system. It can be reflected by what the main character always does, which is to criticize the current education in India. There is a plot that takes place during an engineering class. The professor wants students to answer the question “What is a machine”. Rancho tries to explain his understanding of the machine, and... middle of paper... hey, they really want it. This film manages to criticize the oppressive education system, where educationists know nothing outside of books. More importantly, this film shows that students' dreams should not be limited to getting high-paying jobs. Instead, they should follow their own ambitions. By using descriptions of the achievements of the three so-called idiots, the director manages to show a theme that being yourself is more crucial than blindly following the steps of others. For the reasons stated above, Three Idiots can be considered a good film for college students. Works Cited FHEfoxconnect. "3 idiots." YouTube. YouTube, May 4, 2013. Web.
