Born on January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England, Stephen Hawking was born -as some say- into a family of intellects. Stephens' father, Frank Hawking, studied at Oxford University as a medical researcher, while her mother, Isobel Hawking, was one of the first women to attend university in the 1930s (a time when not many women considered college ). The two raised four children together, Stephen being the eldest. Although Stephens' father would have his eldest sons study medicine at university, it was evident from an early age that Stephen and his brothers had skyrocketed. In his early years of study, Stephen was seen to be brilliant but was considered a poor student. He was more interested in games and fun, making games and making things, being on the move and playing. It was around 5pm when Stephen left for Oxford University, where he rejected his father's wish to pursue medicine and moved towards specializing in mathematics.
