Why should we defend the Pledge of Allegiance? Because of the veterans who died for us? Why did they fight for what we call “freedom”? I personally don't think it should be a requirement for school. Lol I have supported the Pledge of Allegiance since I was in elementary school and never understood why. Freedom of speech, say what you want, when you want and how you want. It is your right to stand up or not. “People die for our country.” “Sign of respect for the country we live in.” “Be proud to be an American.” How can we be proud to be Americans if that only brings negative stereotypes into everyone's heads, that was never what he preaches. Being American is really embarrassing. Just because I was born here doesn't mean I have an undying loyalty to America, being American means nothing to me, to be honest. All of these points are clear examples of why maintaining the Pledge of Allegiance is just a waste of time. Give respect where respect is due. Personally, I don't think we should support and respect a country that doesn't do the same for us Americans. They dishonor other cultures and denigrate people who do not meet their standards of “America.” America is not the same, we have more diversity here and we can't do anything but accept it. Torturing people and telling them that they are not good enough to live here makes people hate us more and want to kill us. Abolishing the Pledge of Allegiance would be an eye opener and perhaps these patriotic Americans could understand this and make a change..
