School is a great place for students to go and get an education, but it has its flaws. Like cheating, cheating happens everywhere in the United States at all different stages of school, from elementary school to college. As ABC News writes in its article, there is a cheating crisis in American schools. The reason why students are educated is for them to have a successful life containing good jobs, wealth and happiness. If students don't get good grades they won't get any of these things. So there is enormous pressure to succeed in school. In a six-month investigation, Primetime visited many schools across the United States to see how many students cheat and why. They found that most students do it and that students do it to keep up. Joe is a student at one of the top colleges in the Northeast who admits to cheating regularly. Like all the college students who spoke to Primetime, he wanted his identity obscured. From Joe's perspective, he's simply doing what the rest of the world does. “The real world is terrible,” he told the interviewer. "People will take other people's materials and pass them off as their own. I'm already numb. I'll cheat my way forward" (http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=132376). At school, cheating has become normal. Personally, the moment I walk into class for the first time, at least 3 students ask me for homework so they can copy it. It's amazing that students no longer even feel that what everyone else is doing is wrong, so they do it. Since some classes are graded on a curve, students feel more pressure to cheat, so they keep up with the cheaters. As one anonymous student said “There are other people who get better grades than me and them.” you're cheating. Why won't I cheat? If you think that only low-achieving students cheat then you are wrong. According to the 1998 Who's Who Among American High School survey Students, 80% of the top students in the country have cheated to get to the top of the class More than half of the students surveyed said they don't think cheating is a big problem, and most have not been caught. http://www.stanford.edu/class/engr110/). Cheating has increasingly become a big problem. Schools need to crack down on it. It can only get worse. If punishments are increased and teachers try to cheat more, cheating will seriously help is an unfair, shameful and unethical thing to do. The simple solution can go a long way.
