Oceans generate half the oxygen people breathe. Air pollution is responsible for 33% of toxic contaminants that end up in oceans and coastal waters. When factories produce smoke, the smoke ends up trapped in the ocean, contributing to dead spots. In the ocean there are many dead spots or dead zones, where life cannot survive; this is due to the lack of oxygen. While we can clean these dead spots, we choose not to. Think of the biggest landfill you've ever seen, filled with all sorts of bottles and rubbish. There is the largest landfill in the oceans, about twice the size of Texas. It is located near California, a polluted state. California is a polluted state due to its size. Another factor that plays into California's pollution is easy access to water because most of California's population is located on the coast. Fish get caught in the trash so close to shore and die. While I was snorkeling in St. Thomas, the ocean was crystal clear and not a single piece of trash was visible. this is due to the stricter laws they have on waste. Soon, due to ocean currents, this beautiful garbage-free ocean will be disgusting and overcast
