Getting the Fulbright scholarship in 2008 was the greatest ambition I have ever achieved in my life. The scholarship gave me a remarkable opportunity to study digital architecture and gain sufficient knowledge in this specialization. “Digital Architecture” is one of the rare specializations in Libya and I am proud to say that I am the first Libyan female architect to have a master's degree in this specialization. This honor made me sincerely think about giving it to my country by bringing what I had learned at the University of Tripoli (UT) and being the most important professor of this specialization. However, convincing my Ph.D. Studying at the University of California at Berkeley will be a continuation of my initial steps in this area and will improve my knowledge and serve both my country and my school which still lacks the spirit of accepting new trends in architecture. In terms of my undergraduate study, a course in the Department of Architecture generated my curiosity towards the connection between Architecture and Technology; Structural systems. By choosing the Walt Disney Concert Hall as a case study for an assignment in this course, I realized how CAD tools are able to increase the expressive and geometric power of the architect and how computer models can be used during the the entire design process to translate the architect's concept. “CATIA offers me a way to get closer to the craft,” said Frank Gehry of the software implemented in his studio. He explained "In the past, there were many layers between my rough sketch and the final building, and the feel of the drawing might get lost before it reached the craftsman. I feel like I'm speaking a foreign language and now, at suddenly, the craftsman understands me... middle of paper... and it's an honor to work on it Briefly, my previous successful study in the United States had increased my practical knowledge, and it will certainly increase more if I convince the my PhD. study at the University of California Berkeley. American universities are known for their perfect courses, for their inventiveness and uniqueness. As a result, my dream of becoming a well-known Libyan architect and an extraordinary professor who has a significant role in the development of his country will only be realized and supported by being part of your program. I am confident that studying doctorate in digital design in your school will open many doors for me later in life and I will dream that one day I will be the hand behind a design that people will stop to admire. The doctorate will certainly allow me to make a concrete and substantial contribution to the architecture of Libya.
