While the printing press and its effects are and will always be a significant innovation in the journalistic world of communication thanks to its ability to transform society and create mass production and With the circulation of texts and printing, the Internet has opened society to a world of new, faster, and expanded resources that have created new opportunities. The significant impact the Internet has had on society is too great to be considered anything less than the number one innovation of all time. The printing press came into the world in the 15th century and changed the world of communication which would never be the same again. The society of the preprint era was based on oral communication and manual copying of manuscripts and texts, which proved to be a very time-consuming and laborious task. The printing press changed society's means of communication by greatly increasing the quantity of texts that could be produced and distributed, as well as the time required to produce them. This machine allowed the company to reach a mass audience on a whole new level. “The circulation of prints and engravings allowed a ruling dynasty to stamp a personal presence on mass consciousness in a new way” (Eisenstein, p. 102). This also meant that producing all these manuscripts was a much cheaper process than hiring printers to hand-copy each text. The printing press proved to be a major innovation that helped quickly spread the word about just about anything. However, the spread of this new technology to other areas took decades to adopt. The invention of the printing press began in Germany around 1450. Other German cities began installing printing presses only five years after the first one existed. The rest of Europe did not hesitate... middle of paper... significant and monumental moment that sparked numerous communication innovations in the years to come. One such invention that encapsulated the fundamental ideas of printing was the Internet. The Internet invites people of all backgrounds to have a say, offers the versatility and ease of accessing any information from millions of databases with the click of a button, and has great power to connect people quickly. The printing press laid the foundation for significant innovations that flowed from this revolutionary machine to create ways in which communication could further assist and facilitate the lives of members of society. The Internet creates and offers society many opportunities to contribute to the feasibility of daily life, as claimed by many scholars and researchers, which makes this invention the number one innovation of all time.
