Chicago, Illinois - the democratic city where the current president of the United States, Barack Obama, has been placed on the map of America's future. Earlier this month, as I walked the busy streets of downtown Chicago, I heard multiple comments about our president's speech. Some negatives, but mostly positives. Some citizens believe that Obama is ruining our nation's future, but in all honesty, there is no other nation ready to take control of the American superpower. Personally I do not have a negative vision for the future of America, my belief is exactly the opposite. Throughout history there have always been opponents. My question is: why do people always look at the negatives when so many positive situations occur? Take for example the increase in education. There has been an overall increase in the number of students pursuing higher education. The numbers will show that not only are there more students attending two-year degree programs, but the number of students enrolling in four-year programs is also increasing. There are many new and exciting grades evolving. Choices range from specializations in technology to various degrees in medical practices. There is debate about whether Asian and European countries surpass the United States in both math and science, but this will not affect the outcome of increasing our overall technology. America has always been the melting pot of the world. Immigrants come to America to improve their lifestyle and with that they bring their strengths. Just because the CEO of a large company doesn't specialize in math doesn't mean he can't advance his corporate position. If he needs strength in math and science, they will advertise those opportunities in the... middle of paper... now lives in a state that has the freedom to marry or honor out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples. Sixteen states allow same-sex couples to marry, and thirty-four remain. To look on the bright side of life, Americans are smarter, healthier, and live longer. Oh sure, there are some people who say America is becoming obese, but the country is aware of it. The population is downsizing and starting to get healthier. The numbers tell us that college and university enrollments are on the rise. People are jumping over barriers to come to America; not only for equality, advances in job opportunities and medical accessibility, but also for the comfort afforded by advanced technologies. America has been through a lot as a country, but we're still here, we're still improving, we're still competitive, and we're still holding our place at the top.
