Topic > A personal experience with positive psychology

Positive psychology can definitely help change one's perspective on many situations and teach them how to make the best of the negative circumstances in their life. Having a positive outlook on life is great for someone's well-being because it helps reduce stress and can also improve health. Before taking this course, it was a little difficult for me to see the positive side in many problems I faced. Now that I have completed this course, I can look back on situations in my life and handle them more appropriately. I remember having a lack of awareness as a child and would always want to do things my way and never take other people's feelings into consideration. For example, if I wanted a new game or any materialistic item, I usually asked my father to buy it for me. Sometimes he said yes and sometimes he said no because he had no money. Every time he said no I always threw a tantrum because I was very upset that I couldn't get what I wanted and I never took his point of view into consideration. Mindfulness is paying attention to your ongoing experience in a way that allows for openness and flexibility. It also means being fully present and aware during our daily activities. When people are aware they are open to new experiences and points of view, are able to create new categories for processing information, and pay attention to the vital process of their own lived experience, as well as to outcomes or goal achievement. Awareness was something I lacked in the past, but now I consider myself very aware; I always take people's feelings into consideration when making a decision and now I am also very open and flexible. A situation that was initially difficult for me to deal with… half of the paper… my emotions. You can't live life in the "what if"; hope gives us courage and faith: the ability to dream and see true happiness. All the theories/concepts discussed in this article have helped change the course of my life in a very positive way. Being mindful has taught me to be more open to new experiences and points of view; being religious has helped me deal with many negative situations in my life; using Fredrickson's doom hypothesis taught me to think positively in negative situations; having flow taught me how to be more focused; having time on my hands taught me to value the more important things in life over money; and having hope keeps my spirits high and keeps me from giving up on my goals. All these concepts/theories are very important for a positive life and have definitely helped me deal with many situations in a more positive way.
