Albert Einstein is perhaps considered the greatest scientist of all time. He is known for having developed the theory of relativity described by the formula e=mc2, where energy equals mass multiplied by the speed of light squared. His achievements in physics helped usher in the nuclear age with nuclear weapons and energy. Like most famous people, he changed the world in various ways. The most significant ways Einstein made the world a better place were his achievements in science, pacifism, and philosophical writings. Einstein's early years were not promising for him. When he was born on March 15, 1879, his mother claimed that his head was too big; his grandmother claimed he was too fat and his father claimed he was slightly retarded (Severance 17). Little Albert did not speak until the age of four and was known to have violent tantrums until the age of seven. Finally, at the age of seven, he entered Catholic primary school and didn't like it, because it was military-style. He was a very shy and dreamy child who did not get good grades; his teachers didn't like him because he sat in the back of the classroom (Severance 21). It was also known that the future genius did not play with toy soldiers and did not like watching military parades, unlike most boys (Severance 20). In short, Einstein's early childhood years did not seem promising for him. Einstein's family played a key role in his development and education. One of the first and perhaps most important events of his early years occurred when Einstein was five years old: his father Hermann Einstein showed him a magnetic compass while using it. Albert was amazed by the invisible forces that made the needle point north no matter how he handled the compass. This fact is taken as the fact that Einstein... is in the center of the card... that he is a plague and that he absolutely hates them both (The World As I See It, an essay by Einstein). He was offered to become president of Israel in 1952 and turned it down due to his health (Albert Einstein). Ultimately, the most significant ways Einstein made the world a better place were his achievements in science, pacifism, and philosophical writings. While his political philosophy is still used today as a guideline to explain things like nationalism in this world.
