The System Administrator The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for the effective procurement, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of the systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. Typically assigned to the team, the system administrator is a qualified subject matter expert and participates in technical research and development to enable continuous innovation within an organization's existing network systems infrastructure. This person ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values. They also improve the work environment by training and enabling end users of the system and other members of their respective organizations. By interacting with the project manager and relevant personnel, the system administrator assists project teams with technical issues in the infrastructure startup and planning phases. These activities typically include defining needs, benefits and technical strategy; research and development within the project life cycle; technical analysis and design; and supporting operations staff in running, testing and implementing solutions. The system administrator's participation in specific projects is focused on facilitating the project's transition from development to implementation by performing operational activities within the project lifecycle.
