There are many sociological issues in today's world that can connect to the conceptual theories formed by Karl Marx and Max Weber many years ago. While there are too many to delve into further, I have chosen to focus primarily on racism and classism. With these theorists' perspectives in mind, I can explain how racism, classism, along with feminism, are among the major social problems humans face in the world today. Both theorists have different theories of the social concept classism, however they are not so very different from each other. Karl Marx uses the term “proletariat” to refer to the “working class”. Marx sees the members of each class as sharing their own distinctive culture. Max Weber uses the term “class” to refer to people who share a similar level of wealth and income. Weber suggests that the distinct components of stratification are class, status, and power. When he refers to “status” he means to suggest that a status is a group of people who have the same prestige or lifestyle. Classism creates differences because “economic ownership that is based on the determinant of class relations”. According to Marx the conflicts that result from these changes in Class, Gender and Race can be very costly and harmful to the stability of the system in which these social problems are surrounded. We were given the idea of what the white man's dream was in America, and that we need standard things to live by. However the "white man's dream" may not be the American dream for everyone, and others may have a different definition or idea of what the American dream or standard of living might be for them to earn a certain amount of money per year have a higher status according to Us......half of the document......I still felt that this was something that female employees were considered incompetent and this was the reason they excluded from our job description . I also had to go on six weeks maternity leave whilst working at White Castle and was promised my position upon my return, unfortunately when I returned not only did my hours have been reduced but I also felt that my position was been replaced with a new employee and I were in tune with the program. Social problems continue to survive nationwide, Marx and Weber's theories and perspectives on racism and classism, along with feminism, give us clarity and understanding of social problems and the history of when and how they arise. Although we cannot solve these problems and conflicts that different cultures may face, having clarity makes it easier for us to understand the concepts.
