In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout, a young girl in Maycomb, Alabama, begins to realize many incidents, which lead her to lose her innocence. First, Scout loses her innocence when she realizes that Maycomb is a racist community. Secondly, he realizes that not everything in life is right. Ultimately, he realizes that he shouldn't look at someone and judge them based on what society sees of them. Scout loses her innocence during her world making. Throughout the book, Scout realizes that Maycomb is a very racist community. First, Scout's cousin, Francis, teases Scout's father, Atticus. “He's nothing but a cock lover!” (110) This is very significant because Atticus is Francis' uncle and Francis should not treat an uncle this way. Mrs. Dubose also insults Atticus "Your father is no better than the niggers and trash he works for!" (135). Scout loses her innocence because her cousin and the older women make fun of her father. This shows how racist people are just because a white man defends a black man and they start insulting him. When Scout and Jem go to church with Calpurnia, a woman named Lula says, "You have no business bringing the white chilluns here they have their church, we have ours" (158). When it comes to white people coming to the black church, he really starts to get angry. He says they are not allowed in the white church and that white people are not allowed in the black church. This shows how Maycomb county is racist because there are two races white and black that hate each other. This is how Scout realizes that Maycomb is racist. Scout realizes that everything in life isn't fair. During the school day Miss Caroline the teacher asks Walter for a quarter. Wal...... middle of paper ......r, I never understand that I live I do it because that's how I want to live” (268). There's a reason he pretends to be drunk because he's married to a black woman he loves so when people demand to know why he loves her because he's drunk he doesn't know what he's doing. He is pretending to society that he is drunk but in reality he is not. Don't judge someone based on how society judges them, but based on how you judge them. In conclusion, Scout realized that Maycomb County is racist because of what happened at the church. Secondly, she realized that not everything is right because of Tom's case. Finally, judge someone as you see them and not as society judges them. Boo was known as a wicked boy but in the end he saved the lives of two people, Scout and Jem. Scout loses her innocence at a young age due to all the realizations she has faced,
