Indeed, at the most basic level, both delinquents are committing an illegal act, in some shape or form. As a result, there is no doubt that in both cases immediate action is needed to hopefully curb this crime and prevent any future crimes. The distinction, therefore, arises from the exact measures that must be taken to prevent these crimes. That is, delinquents should not simply be grouped into the same category as delinquents because the very nature of the crimes they are committing is fundamentally different. Consequently, this would undoubtedly have a salient effect on policy in this area. That is, status offenders would not be seen as juvenile delinquents at all, with all the implications and consequences that entails.
