Being a sign language teacher for high school or college seems like a very broad topic to me. The more I think about it, the more profound it seems. I don't think it's set in stone that I want to become a sign language teacher, but I feel like it would be a good foundation, so if I wanted to go into a different field I could easily do that. I'm sure there is a lot of work to do to even qualify for a sign language teacher. I must have the ability to work in all types of environments, be it school, work and even everyday situations as fully knowledgeable in my special field. I need to be able to express my points clearly and effectively. I must also be highly involved in the community and “develop the skills and cultural norms necessary to function effectively within the deaf community” (proposed standards). I need applied linguistics, to be educated in child development and learning, education and leadership skills.
