Our founding fathers were willing to pay the price to receive freedom. Our society must now be willing to pay the price to receive free speech and free liberty. Defend every word so that all freedoms are preserved. Be an advocate of absolute free speech to instill absolute freedom (Collins 2). To uphold the First Amendment, society must practice tolerance and patience (1). Free speech allows others to express their opinions and does not allow the government to intervene with others who receive those opinions. Just because the expression of an idea is not the same as that of the majority or is offensive does not justify it being illegal to say it. Opposing points of view are vital to the development of society ("First Amendment" 1). They encourage external thinking and new ideas or revelations. It is freedom of speech that has led to the progress of society and will help continue this process for many years
