Topic > Bible: The Beatitudes in Jesus Sermon on the Mount

During his life on earth Jesus gave a sermon on the mount in which he informed people listening of a list of 'beatitudes'. The Beatitudes are the objective of human reality and the goal of all our acts. Christ implies that if we live according to the Beatitudes we will experience the happiness of heaven in this life. Each beatitude asks something different of us, some are more difficult to realize than others, however, each of them is achievable and can be demonstrated on different scales. A modernization of each beatitude could be done in this way.1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Being poor in spirit, despite what it seems, does not mean you lack motivation or initiative, but rather means you display traits such as modesty and humility both towards others and towards others. beings and towards God. This particular beatitude calls for us as human beings to show modesty towards one another and towards God through our actions, words and thoughts. We can be humble toward others by doing simple tasks such as volunteering our time to benefit others who may not be as fortunate as us. Even in doing something as simple as praying for others, we put their needs before our own and are therefore humble. Even through prayer we recognize our need for God and thus once again demonstrate humility.2. "Blessed are those who cry, for they will be consoled." Grief is not just limited to the death of a person, but can be extended to things like the loss of a job or the breakup of a relationship. This second beatitude asks us to care about the pain and suffering of others, no matter how small we may see them. When we take the time to care for those who may have lost a loved one... middle of paper... is that life? We may not know what is out there, beyond this world and beyond the infinite number of galaxies and universes that live beyond our reach. But what we know is this, the only things that are guaranteed in life are the present and the knowledge that one day every life will reach an inevitable end. We will all choose to take different paths in life with different careers and goals. We will all grow to accomplish different things, and each of these will play an important role in the big picture of life. It doesn't matter where we come from, what culture we choose to cultivate or what our beliefs are: at the heart of it all, is that we are all human beings who have ambitions and aspirations to live life to the fullest. And we should not allow political, religious or cultural differences to cause conflicts that bring only pain and destruction to our world.
