Dual language is a form of education in which students are taught to read and write in two languages. Most bilingual programs in the United States teach in English and Spanish, although there are emerging programs that teach in Mandarin, Japanese, and Hindi. Programs begin primarily in kindergarten and first grade and continue throughout primary education, and some grade-dependent bilingual programs continue through middle and high school. Hayward Elementary School, Burbank, and Winton Middle School also offer bilingual programs. Each level of teaching uses a different language ratio in which the class is taught, the classes start with a ration of 90:10 and then as the years go by the ration becomes constant 50:50 (Lindholm-Leary, Kathryn J,2001 ). The goals of dual language immersion programs are for children to become both bilingual and bilingual, in other words, they will be able to speak and write fluently in two different languages. Bilingual programs are becoming more common, with most taking place in public schools, but some starting to become private and charter schools. Bilingual education should be introduced in all elementary schools starting from kindergarten to increase the achievement of English language learners, the benefits it will bring to the community, exceptional brain benefits and, ultimately, cost efficiency in the education in the United States. Bilingual programs not only create biliteracy and bilingualism for students in classrooms, but it helps create overall academic improvement for students. Dual language is a type of bilingual education where students are taught different subjects such as mathematics, science, language arts, ... halfway through the task ... students excel in both languages. Some parents worry about "too much" exposure to the new language, fearing that their children will forget their roots. This will not happen because the patterns will eventually turn to a 50-50 ratio. Dual language education offers numerous benefits to those who choose to participate. It helps English language learners bridge the gap in their education, helps raise community awareness and has beneficial effects on the brain, and ultimately, a new approach to saving money on education and making it worth it. Dual education is the right choice when thinking about the future of public elementary schools and higher education. Starting as early as kindergarten will allow students to gain the full emergence that the bilingual program is intended to provide. Our United States is slowing down the change and maintaining dual language is a step in the right direction.
