Topic > Survival in the stories of Anne Frank and Gerda...

Survival is being willing to do anything, defying all odds, to overcome a situation, no matter how hopeless it seems. An example of survival in our world today is the people in the Philippines. Although people in the Philippines did not experience a holocaust, they are still struggling to survive after a super typhoon destroyed their lives. One of the most intense battles for survival in our history is the Holocaust, when Nazi Germany persecuted Europe's Jews. Two of the greatest stories of survival during the Holocaust are the stories of Anne Frank and Gerda Weissman Klein. The horrific experiences of Anne Frank and Gerda Weissman Klein during the Holocaust exemplify their exceptional courage in trying to survive during one of the worst periods in history. Anne Frank and her family lived in Germany in the aftermath of the First World War. When the Nazi Party came to power in Germany, the Franks were forced to flee Germany and moved to the Netherlands. Shortly after their move, the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. To save their lives, the Franks went into hiding when Anne was 13. They hid in a "Secret Annex" located in the building where Mr. Frank ran his business. They had 8 people hiding in a chain of rooms smaller than most mobile homes. Because food was rationed during the war, the Franks and those who hid with them had to survive on only two ration books. Anne spent her time writing in her diary. It was one of the only ways she was able to survive and stay sane. He found comfort in the words of his diary and wanted it saved so he could publish it after the war. The family as a whole struggled to survive... middle of paper... get through the day knowing that I was the only one left out. That no one was like me, nor understood what I was going through. But, somehow, I found a way to survive it all and came out of it with a new sense of self-worth and confidence. In conclusion, both Anne Frank and Gerda Weissman Klein used an enormous amount of strength and courage to live during the Holocaust. . Even though Anne didn't survive, that doesn't mean she wasn't as strong. He faced his final challenge with defiance and determination. Gerda ended up surviving the whole ordeal and went on to live a happy life. This simply shows that Gerda never let her experiences during the Death Marches ruin her life. He took them in stride and continued living life. Both of these women have inspiring stories and their legacies will continue to inspire others for generations to come.
