Topic > The play Oedipus the King by Sophocles - 1012

The play Oedipus the King is a Greek tragedy by Sophocles, set in the kingdom of Thebes. In the play "Oedipus the King", Sophocles uses sarcasm in the form of Oedipus' speech to the inhabitants of Thebes, in his miserable and seemingly inevitable fate, because the king accidentally killed his own father and had an incestuous relationship with his mother. Throughout the play, Oedipus the King, Sophocles shapes the entire story using dramatic irony. Fate and luck acted repeatedly in the life of King Oedipus, but they could not prevent it from happening. However, when it comes to drama, tragedy and mockery often go hand in hand; the same can be said of Oedipus the King, as Oedipus' uncontrolled character slowly digs a deeper hole in him, even as irony continues to surround him and makes him more tragic in the end. There were efforts to overcome what was written in his destiny as Jacosta and King Laius were planning to kill their newborn child, but King Oedipus fled Corinth to prevent the bad deed from occurring. Basically, this play is about who Oedipus' parents are and what kind of man he is. The audience receives the truth in Oedipus' words and waits in long suspense for him himself to finally realize the truth, but just when the audience thinks he will, the insight continues to elude him. However, Sophocles uses many different acts throughout the play that depict dramatic irony. The most important are Oedipus' curse on himself and his incestuous relationship with his mother. The first effort was to stop what was in the fate of Jocasta and King Laius. After their marriage, King Laius of Thebes and his wife Jocasta were warned by the Oracle of Delphi that they would have a son who... mid-card... who would marry his own son and have children with whom his blood. In conclusion, this is also called “perfect tragedy” because of the dramatic irony and tragedies that happen, which is written into your destiny. The audience witnessed the tragedies of fate in which King Oedipus was trapped throughout his life. Everything that was said by the prophet later occurred in the life of Oedipus. However, even after numerous efforts to prevent all bad deeds from occurring, they failed to prevent it at all. After committing such evil deeds as killing your father and sleeping with your mother, it was mandatory that King Oedipus had to face the evil things he had done, even though it was not planned but this caused him to be exiled from Thebes. The moral of the story is that you cannot change what is written in your destiny and whatever will happen in the end.
