Raisins in the Sun is a film about a black family trying to make it. Five family members all live in the same small two-bedroom apartment. They all know that things are about to change because they know that Mama Younger is about to receive a check for 10,000 from where her husband recently passed away. Each family member has their own dreams of what they want to do with the money, but they just don't want to ask mom if they can use it for their dreams, especially Walter Lee; his son. Just before Mom receives the check in the mail, the whole family is surprised by some news from Ruth, Walter Lee's wife. Ruth ends up finding out that she is pregnant and that she wants to get rid of the baby because she knows that they cannot afford another baby, nor do they have room to accommodate it. The day Mom receives the check in the mail is the day Walter Lee comes home to ask if he can have some money so he and his friends can buy a liquor store. After this point in the movie or play, is where all the problems and happiness begin. Walter Lee and Willy Loman are similar because they both want to do good for their family. They want to give their children a life that neither of them has ever had before. Willy Loman was a traveling salesman who went on trips until the end, because he risked crashing several times. Since Willy can no longer go on trips, he decides to get a job in the city. Before starting work, his condition worsens as time passes. When the time comes for Willy to meet his new boss, he is happy and excited to start his new job, but then he receives bad news. News that instead of being moved to the New York office, he's five......half of paper......ye will be moving into that house, no matter how hard they have to work to stay there. Willy must maintain his human dignity by not going on sales trips due to the problems he is having. Instead of going on trips he decides that he must stay in the city, to help him and his family. Furthermore, to maintain his human dignity, he decides he must tell his children at the restaurant that he didn't get the job; although he ended up being killed at the end of the story. Both of these stories show that you can't always think about yourself, that you have to think about your family too. Both show that you always have to put in your best efforts to provide a better life for your family and that most of the time you are not given everything. For me I think the moral of both of these stories is that sometimes you have to sacrifice your dreams for the dreams of others.
