Topic > Unrealistic desires in terms of money, fame and physical resources...

We never stop asking questions about ourselves. We wonder if we make enough money, if we wear the right clothes, if we are successful, or if we are attractive enough, popular enough, and, many times, if we are thin enough. We often do this to ourselves, perhaps to an extent we don't even realize. How can we begin to answer these questions? It's very easy to take for granted how much we humans are influenced by the media. For years we have relied on the media to measure success, beauty and power. Many times, our behaviors are based on what we consider acceptable, due to the actions of individuals shown on reality television shows. This is often extremely misleading and misunderstood, causing many to believe in such anomalous ideals. Every day, the average person is exposed to thousands of advertisements, including broadcast, visual or print, promoting unrealistic body shapes and sexually oriented advertisements for fashion and cosmetics. We, as women, are influenced from a young age to objectify our bodies by the influence of films, music videos and, very often, song lyrics. Fashion and lifestyle magazines also contribute to a large extent to women's self-destruction. Magazines, like lifestyle, are intentionally intended to give people an idea of how they should live their lives: hence the name "lifestyle magazine". We are told how we should dress, where we should eat, and what kind of people we should associate with. We constantly read about how much people drink, smoke, take drugs, have affairs, and party, which doesn't seem to affect people as it should because, in their opinion, they're not doing anything wrong if everyone else is doing it too. In today's culture, unrealistic, the center of the paper in the image was colored with crayon, but as most girls do, this girl had curves. Stunned by what she had just said, I asked her what makes those girls unreal and she simply said, “Those girls don't look like us. Those girls are not like us; they are all the same. Tall and thin." Absolutely amazed by what she had just said, I knew she was extremely precise and did not expect such a reaction from a young girl like her. As a society, we feel more in control when we know what is happening. We always the ability to listen to what we want. Tune in or tune out. If it all becomes too much, fold the newspaper, turn off the radio. Close the computer. Close everything to accept our flaws and treat others as equals will be the day we change the mentality of our generation..
