In fact, I didn't learn English until high school. I only knew a few words in English when I first came to the United States of America. I was barely able to read or write. I remember when I called myself “I am the bathroom” instead of “I needed to use the bathroom.” With everyone laughing at me for my poorly spoken English, I was discouraged from continuing to learn English. However, the after school extracurricular activity, ACE club woke me up from depression. ACE was short for Asian Cultural Exchange Club. This club was led by a group of foreign students like me. They teach cultural difference and leadership through service to others. Once a week I can talk about my problems and anything I found difficult to deal with. The ACE members considered me English and encouraged me to speak to foreigners in English and become their friends. The ACE club has helped not only me, but also others to become more confident in their daily lives. The ACE club made me realize that people care too much about what's on the outside and not about charisma or personality
