Topic > Analysis of the song Runaway Love by Ludacris and Mary J,...

The song I chose for this homework is called Runaway Love by Ludacris and Mary J. Blige. The song describes the hardships of three young girls and their struggle to survive. Eventually, the girls are tired of the life they are forced to live and decide to pack their bags and run away. I think this song can relate to many aspects of sociology that we learned in class. Some examples shown through the song are poverty, education, healthcare, marriage, and family. The different stories and struggles all three girls face. The first girl mentioned is Lisa, she feels alone in the world, her mother is a drug addict and she likes to bring home many men. The song is about things that work well at first, but later, during the night, the mother and the man end up arguing. The men beat Lisa and when Lisa tries to tell her mother, her mother doesn't believe her. Lisa's story may be specifically about marriage and family because she grows up in a functional family. The mother is a drug addict and does not take care of her daughter, it is said that there is no father because the mother brings men home every night. The fact that Lisa has no stable family and no one to look up to is negatively impacting her life. The men her mother brings home abuse Lisa and mistreat her. Lisa is a nine year old girl, she is too young to experience the things she does. There is probably not even a primary income for his family, and if his mother gets paid, she will probably use that money to buy more drugs. This can relate to the poverty aspect because people growing up in poverty cannot even afford to survive on minimum wage alone. Also, the fact that Lisa's mom is a single mother means that she is and...... middle of paper ...... taught her something about the consequences of having sex and the precautions one needs to take to avoid becoming pregnant. Also, Erica's mother may have had her at a very young age, so in Erica's mind it may be acceptable to do these things at such a young age. These three girls described in this song refer to sociological characteristics of poverty, education, healthcare, marriage and family. The most important sociological aspect seen in all three of the girls' stories is poverty. Poverty is a big part of the song and shows some instances where it's like living in poverty. At the end of the song Ludacris talks about how he has no idea what these girls have been through. She tells the girls to close their eyes and pretend they are running away from their lives, when they open their eyes their problems will disappear and everything will be fine.
