Love has the power to change the world. It can do much more than any speech, treaty or war. Love, on a smaller scale, can especially impact the lives of those who communicate and receive it. This passion has the ability to calm, offer comfort and provide life. In particular, a girl dedicates her life to spreading love, even when she has to sacrifice much of her time. This woman is Lucie Manette. In the novel A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens uses the character of Lucie Manette to show that love and sacrifice can impact a person's life. From the beginning of the novel, Lucie is willing to make sacrifices to take care of her family and support the family. strong bond between them. Lucie's first life-changing sacrifice begins when she realizes that her father, thought dead, is alive. Discussing Lucie's father, Mr. Lorry tells Lucie, "Your father has been taken to the house of an old servant in Paris, and we will go there: I, to identify him if I can: you, to bring him back to life." , love, duty, rest, comfort” (Dickens 29). Given this information from Mr. Lorry, Lucie recognizes that her tired father needs her help to return to a normal life. This requires a great sacrifice, but, later in the novel, Lucie also takes on the task of caring for the rest of her family. As she sits quietly in her home, listening to footsteps, Lucie is “ever busy winding the golden thread that bound them all together, weaving the service of her happy influence through the fabric of all their lives, and making it predominate from nowhere” (Dickens 216 ). Lucie's "golden thread" is the only thing that holds the family together, maintaining peace and sparking happiness through her sacrifices. She manages to bring her father out of madness and... middle of paper... while he is unjustly imprisoned, and never loses hope. With loyalty and admiration, Lucie shows her impact on the lives of those who were forced to leave her. The effects of love and sacrifice on one's life can be shown through the character of Lucie Manette in the novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. The way Lucie radiates warmth to her friends and family and sacrifices herself for them has a greater impact than anything else could have. Indeed, loving gestures have the power to do anything. They can brighten your mood and make your day better. Overall, love is a powerful feeling. It can be defined in many ways, but it is always an important emotion to experience. Without it, humans are empty. It is a necessary part of life; with it, everything is possible. Works Cited Dickens, Charles. A tale of two cities. New York: New American Library, 1960. Print.
