Brittany BassConstructivism: What is constructivism and how does this educational approach impact educators? A constructivism approach to education has no fixed rules for its pedagogical practice. This is not as simple an educational vision as some might believe. Generally the agreement on this concept is that students need both to interact with their classmates and with the physical world to stimulate a more meaningful interpretation of the knowledge that occurs within the classroom. Constructivist teaching should promote critical thinking. This way of teaching helps build and create motivated and independent students. This educational structure in theory embraces the idea that learning will continue to be based on one's schema (information the student already has). It is suggested that learning is more successful when students are actively involved in the learning process rather than receiving material more passively.
