Crash is a movie that features several events detailing sociological concepts. The movie Crash showed that everyone who was created has good intentions and good hearts, but unfortunately they can grow and learn the prejudices of the world. “Crash” is a film that brings out racial stereotypes; as the film is set in Los Angeles, a city with different races of every nationality. The film begins with several people involved in a car accident. We are then taken back to the day before the crash, where we are shown the lives of many characters and the difficulties they may encounter during that day. An LAPD cop is trying to get medical care for his father, but has trouble with an African-American receptionist who won't give his father permission to see another doctor. He then turns and takes his anger out on a black couple during a routine traffic stop. A socialite and a district attorney are carjacked at gunpoint by two black teenagers. The socialite takes her anger out on a Hispanic man who is changing the locks on the door of their house. After the Hispanic man leaves, he is robbed of his dignity by a Persian shopkeeper. Crash showed many different elements of Emile Durkheim's theory where norms were used and characters were confusing, unclear, or not present. Durkheim's Anomie describes that these individuals cannot find their place in society without clear rules to guide them. Changing conditions and life adaptation lead to dissatisfaction, conflict and deviance. He noted that periods of social disintegration have brought higher rates of crime, suicide and deviance. Another theory shown in the movie was Karl Marx's theory called Marxism. Each character showed the different social class......middle of paper......thieves. They set social norms based on their own views because they are the powerful in their social class. I liked Movie Crash because I saw a lot of what happens in my society today being put on film. It is a fact that no one wants to talk about racial discrimination or the difficulties we may face because we belong to a minority. This film dramatizes the norms we face every day that really shouldn't be classified as norms, but the majority and minorities have accepted such behavior. Throughout our lives we will all face some type of discrimination due to skin color, social class, religion, education, and the list goes on and on. I believe it is our duty to proactively show each other that we are all equal in the image of God and that we should do our best to show each other peace, kindness, fairness and love at all times.
