This course taught me very valuable things regarding sociology in general, but its focus on social problem processes was of particular importance throughout the semester. The different types of problems identified in the book, as well as their subjective remedial measures, opened my eyes for the future. Although it was only my first sociology class in high school, this course introduced me to all the terminology and background information needed to advance in the study of social problems. This social problems course introduced me to the practice of identifying and studying social problems. For the future, I now know terms such as “subjective concern”, “objective conditions” and many others. I could easily hold a relevant conversation with any sociologist regarding a certain social issue and stand my ground. This topic also connected well with many other areas of my other lessons. This course also prepared me for future sociology courses in high school or college, and perhaps for a career in sociology in the future. Study of social problems ...
