While some cultures perceive laughter as happiness, others perceive it as rude or uncomfortable. In addition to responses, language is a fundamental part of culture, as Samovar and Porter (2014) state: “On the one hand, without language, culture would not be possible. On the other hand, language is influenced and shaped by culture ; reflects the culture.' Without in-depth knowledge, sensitivity, and appreciation, students from different cultures run the risk of simple misunderstandings that lead teachers to perceive student differences as problems with understanding, thus responding with negative feedback, inappropriate teaching, unfair grading criteria, and low expectations (Grassi & Barker 2009). response, students may feel demotivated by the hostile learning environment, leading to low self-esteem and academic achievement.
