In June 2012, smoky haze, attributed primarily to fires burning in Sumatra, Indonesia, had hit Malaysia. The haze was the worst in 10 years, according to Halimah Hassan, director general of Malaysia's Environment Department, based on the air pollution index reading exceeding the dangerous and unhealthy level. (The New York Times, 2013). Subsequently, in November 2013, a landslide occurred in the Cameron Highlands which killed seven people. According to Harlida Abdul Wahab (2013), a lecturer at Universiti Utara Malaysia, the cause of the landslide was due to uncontrolled development activities in the Cameron Highlands. The latest, worst bloodshed occurred in Kuantan and Kemaman and the factor is that rainwater does not flow naturally due to development in both areas (Arfa Yunus, 2013). However, nowadays, environmental issues have not only become a crucial topic in Malaysia, but are also a major concern internationally. Environmental issues concern the problems of earth systems and are primarily the result of human mistreatment of the earth. The sequences of these environmental issues show us how important awareness of environmental issues is. Therefore, we truly believe that awareness about environmental issues is crucial for every individual and can avoid or at least minimize problems. According to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP, 2012), environmental issues can be defined as issues with a negative global environmental impact that are recognized by the scientific community as very important for human well-being.
