Topic > Strategic Family Therapy: Cloe Madanes - 2403

Cloe Madanes once said that psychotherapy is the art of finding the angel of hope in the midst of terror, despair and madness. Cloe Madanes was born in Argentina in 1945. She studied psychology and obtained her license twenty years later. Subsequently, Madanes became associated with the Mental Research Institute in California and his work was greatly influenced by his mentors Gregory Bateson, Salvador Minuchin, and Milton Erickson (Madanes, 2004). In 1976, Madanes and her ex-husband, J. Haley, founded the Family Therapy Institute in Washington, DC. Madanes belongs to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. In 1996, she was awarded the Egner Foundation Award for distinguished contributions to the fields of philosophy, psychology, and anthropology and the 2000 California Psychological Association Award for distinguished contributions to psychology (Annals of the American Psychotherapy Association, 2002). Cloe Madanes is interested in preserving children's rights and preventing family violence. Mayor Gavin Newsom presented her with an award in 2005 that recognized her commitment to children (Cloe Madanes :: Curriculum Vitae, n.d.). Cloe Madanes and Anthony Robbins formed the Robbins-Madanes Center for Strategic Intervention in 2000. The goal was to assist in solving problems related to clients' professional and personal lives using social sciences and psychology. “Strategic intervention strives to address the needs of all members of a family, community, or business by providing therapy and other intervention services in a shorter period of time (Cloe Madanes Biography, 2013).” Many different therapeutic methods are used in the interventions, such as negotiation, conflict resolution, Ericksonian therapy, a... middle of paper... and all family members are involved in trying to help. The fact that the individual's family is part of the therapy session shows how much their family members care about them and want them to get help for whatever problems they may have. This is very important because it is a sign of love and shows mutual support. Therapists have also found that during strategic family therapy, they can help all family members by encouraging each other and creating rules and interactions that are psychologically healthy for all family members involved. It will make it easier for family members to get along and understand each other. When one person in the family has problems, other members should take the time to talk to each other and help each other, especially the family member who needs help.
