During a show Keltie Bryne, a champion swimmer and coach at Sea Land, slipped and fell into the whale tank. She was then grabbed by the foot and drugged. Terrified members of the public watched helplessly as Keltie screamed for help knowing she was in serious danger. She was repeatedly drugged underwater to the bottom of the pool, resulting in her death by drowning. Eyewitnesses confirm that it was Tilly, the larger whale, who dragged Keltie under as the females swam aggressively around the tank. Shortly after this tragic accident, Sea Land closed its doors for good and Tilikum was on the market and for sale, an opportunity quickly seized upon by Sea World who needed a male breeder.
