Topic > Sri Lanka: a unique geography - 1768

“I gradually became aware that my interiority was inseparable from my exteriority, that the geography of my city was the geography of my soul”. -Alessandro Hemon. Is this quote actually true?! Is geography the path to our souls and eternal happiness/drive? Many may not agree with this, but for people who study geography this quote is considered true in common terms. Through the common correlation that makes a country a country, a state a state, a person a person, and a group a group, geography has proven to be the cause of reason. Geography, through its physical and human characteristics, brings together reason about how both physical and human factors cause people to live the way they do. As for Sri Lanka, many may be stunned to hear that even such a small group of people has such a big purpose in lieu of people's lives. Indeed; despite various beliefs to the contrary, Sri Lanka is unique in both physical and human geography, starting from history, government and even location! It is these factors that make this country important to its people, its culture, society and even the world. To begin with, the history (human geography) of Sri Lanka provides a detailed summary of events, situations and conflicts that helped shape the path for its culture and people. For example, in medieval Sri Lanka; following the annihilation of the ancient Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa empires in 1215 AD by Kalinga Magha, all of Sri Lanka's medieval and ancient-influenced cultures were lost to humans forever. Although many of its inhabitants fled due to Magha's contumacious anger and the Change's rigorous reforms, the culture never truly had a chance to recover. But then, when his death took place, a new kingdom was formed in the north......in the midst of the development of paper, mobility, and resources (benefits that stimulate an economy or prepare for war). But since Sri Lanka went through such hardships in the past from being invaded incessantly by superior countries, it allowed and forced them to become what they are today! Their position allowed past events (history) to occur, and it is this history that allowed them to transform into new ones. It is this new change that continues to make Sri Lanka become or transform into great global importance! As for its people… its location provided climate and therefore culture, but it was also the location that made history transform into what they believe and value today (modern culture and beliefs). And so, with all of this considered above, it is anodyne to say that his position has negatively helped him to become significantly known throughout his people and in today's world..
