Topic > The IB Programme: Study of Literature and Science

Literature and science are among the compulsory subjects for study by all IB students. Through exploring these components, students gain knowledge and understanding about individuals and societies. This parallels the IB's mission to develop knowledgeable and thoughtful young people in order to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Individuals and corporations constitute group 3 in hexagon IB. In my opinion, learning literature and science in the IB program contributes a lot to my understanding of individuals and societies from different parts of the world, even if I don't meet them. Literature is defined as creative writing by an author that describes a particular society. Science is a systematic study of everything that happens in the physical and natural world and is based on observation and experimentation. It is branched into two areas of knowledge, which are natural sciences and humanities. Knowledge can be gained about individuals and societies through language, reason and sensory perception. Through learning literature and science in the IB program, I gain knowledge about the cultural and ethical values of a society and the behavior of individuals when faced with certain circumstances. However, the truth about this can be questioned as I myself do not observe people and sometimes individuals do not behave as in the theory I have learned. “Literature is where I go to explore the highest and lowest places of human society and human spirit, where I hope to find not absolute truth, but the truth of narrative, of imagination, and of the heart.” This quote expresses the power of literature to take understanding to a higher level. In summary, I believe that understanding individuals and societies is the main key to a peaceful world. BIBLIOGRAPHY "science". Collins English Dictionary: Complete and Unabridged Tenth Edition.
