Every woman is seen as not good enough and the wife sees it. She is also a first-hand witness to what men think of women. The wife's fifth husband, "every night and day in his custom,/ When he had de leiser and vacacioun" (698-699), read a "book of wicked wives" (691). She saw firsthand that men even wrote books about how "bad" women were. The wife saw that men often talk this way about women, so this may have led the wife to the conclusion that men are the problem and the reason for all the stereotypes about women. The Wife of Bath showed many feminist views through the character of the wife. The character of the wife comes to life with her great personality and a lot of it has to do with some of the feminist views she portrays in the poem. She shows that women don't have to stick to the rules society created for them by simply being who they are, and lets it be known that she won't be like the average everyday woman of that time. Reading The Wife of Bath we can see that the wife defends feminist views without fear or shame in doing so, regardless of what the men and women of the city may say about it.
