The woodcutter had mentioned the trampled grass and bamboo leaves in his story saying that it looked like there had been a fight. In addition to this, Tajomaru mentions killing the victim in a sword fight. This coincides with the wound that the woodcutter said he saw on the body [a sword wound]. There was also the piece of rope that the woodcutter had seen and with which the killer said he had used to tie his victim. Furthermore, Tajomaru also provides a plausible reason why he killed the victim, namely his desire for the victim's spouse. Eventually he even admits to the murder himself, opening himself up to punishment and the defacement of his honor for the crime. There is no reason for him to do so, given in the story, other than the fact that he is responsible for the murder. The other statements made by the victim's wife and by the victim himself through a medium contained parts that did not correspond to the woodcutter's testimony.
