Information Technology As a child sitting with your friends, there was always that one person who said: do you think this will ever happen? When I grow up I will just have to say open door to enter the house, I will do everything else for myself. now, to my great surprise, this day has come. The arrival and use of computers in today's world is absolutely incredible. With computers you can do things that could never have been done in the past. we have security systems that don't require keys, cell phones that can be connected online, and receptionists are now virtually unknown thanks to automated voice systems. the question everyone wants to know is: are we also dependent on computers and what will happen when they fail us? this is an idea that no one really likes to discuss. Going deeper with this idea, what have computers done to the business world. many people believe it has improved the operations of today's society, others believe it has ruined them. Now there are companies run by very few workers thanks to fully automated systems, systems that require an operator and can produce more than 15-20 cases. what this does is force the company to fit new technological advancements into its budget to keep up with the competition and be more cost-effective. This is exactly why the technology is there, to get one step ahead of the competition and produce more products, more often. Integration of computers in assembly lines, batch plants, use for inventory control purposes, data acquisition, data collection, etc. ., are all very interesting innovations in today's business world. This goes a long way towards making our world more technologically advanced, however, what happens to our unemployment rates when these workers are replaced with machines. At this moment in time unemployment rates are actually declining, however I see them only getting worse in the near future. in a book I recently read, How to Drive Your Competition Crazy, Guy Kawasaki, there is a paragraph about Toyota that has a direct correlation to technology and how it is impacting today's workplace. in this paragraph it says: “Toyota's introduction of the Lexus line of automobiles is an example of outrageous substitute positioning. these cars were exactly positioned against Mercedes and BMW.
