Das exhibits a stereotypical American flaw where he did not care about his children and would openly go and start discussing his personal life and even in the process he held himself guilty of disrespecting the country and to cultural beliefs, whether she believes it or not, she still has the Indian heritage in her. Lahiri's shows us that Mrs. Das is messy; lazy and above all a bad parent. Mr. Kapashi felt that the cultural difference between himself and Ms. das was too great and therefore he did not even want to think about having further personal conversations. This teaches us how two completely different people can bring with them a common heritage, but being raised in different cultures can be very different and mutual.
