Website design is constantly changing and it can be difficult to keep up. Website designers must always keep up with the latest trends and looks. You might think of website design as a clothing trend where you always have to have the best and latest. The unfortunate thing is that the website owner starts to stop thinking about the appearance and starts thinking about other things like content. Even though the content is important, the design is nice, more important than you think. Let's take a quick look at a typical user browsing the web and see what goes through their mind. Jack is surfing the Internet looking for a new car. He searches for a red car and comes across site A. The site description looks good in his search engine, so he clicks and goes to the site. He comes across a last blank and desolate page with some text and images. Even though the content of the site is good, the look seems unprofessional and outdated. Think of your website like a physical store front. If the windows are dirty, the sidewalk is layered, and cobwebs hang on the door, the person will probably move on. Now Jack continues his search and finds the description of another interesting site (B) and clicks. It comes presented with a nice smooth red background and easy navigation. The site looks professional and friendly. Jack will continue to visit the site. In the case of websites, people judge it by its cover. You can't get stuck in the 90's with a basic html page, things change just like everything else and if you want people to come in you have to follow the trend. If you search the Internet you are bound to find shocking websites that make you want to walk away. Aside from that, I'll give you some examples of these sites so you know what to stick with... middle of the paper... start browsing while the rest of the page loads.• Try not to add large elements like images of large size. Large photos taken directly from our camera can be unsightly on the web. If you embed them directly with html in the example, they can take forever to load on slower connections. If you must have images, you may want to scale them down for the web or put them into some sort of web service like Flicker and then embed the image. We searched a lot but we didn't even touch the surface. There's a lot more to learn, but by keeping some of these important elements in mind when creating a site you should be able to keep yourself out of trouble. Just remember a few things, just because you can doesn't mean you should, CSS is your friend, clean is happy and bigger isn't always better. Simply by using these tips you should have a nice, easy to use site that won't get boring.
