In this competitive world, everyone is trying to earn more money than others and because of this race they are losing their original purpose which is to have healthy relationships with others and enjoy life. Nowadays, individuals abandon themselves a lot and do not spend adequate time with others. Research conducted by scientists has shown that isolation is one of the causes contributing to depression and other mental health disorders. People have started to value money and fame more than their own happiness, which makes their life empty and meaningless. In the poem “The Desert Places” by Robert Frost the narrator encounters loneliness and isolation and talks about how these negatively affect his mental well-being. The poem indicates that when individuals isolate themselves from others, they compromise their own happiness as they receive the negative effects of depression and the inability to communicate their emotions with others. The main character of the poem “The Desert Places”, the speaker himself talks about his life which is aimless and empty, the motivation behind why it is ruining his happiness. You can tell from the tone of the poem, which is sad and miserable, that the speaker is not happy with himself and his liveliness. The speaker encounters isolation and loneliness around poetry which is the root cause of his pain. The lines of the poem: "A whiter emptier than darkened snow, without expression, nothing to express." describes the speaker's internal emotions that are sad and empty.
