Topic > Genocide and the Means of Propaganda - 1460

For many Americans, the feeling of being spectators as countries massacre their own people has been the subject of legal debate since 1933, has gradually developed into a concept that can be applied in many situations, both historical and contemporary. The meaning of the phrase genocide is the cleansing of a race or ethnicity in a country. There is evidence that this phrase can be used to describe past and present massacres committed around the world and how the media has changed its perception on this issue over time. “Propaganda seeks to impose a doctrine on all the people…Propaganda works on the general public from the point of view of an idea and makes it ripe for the victory of this idea.” (Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, 1926). In Adolf Hitler's time, Jews in Europe were not highly regarded. They were doing very well economically because they were major bankers and they were being blamed for the economic problems in Germany because the Germans were in trouble. He blamed the Jews for the difficulties the country was facing. Pamphlets, leaflets and flags were put up all over the country to show the Germans that the Jews were being "cured" and caused a bad outlook on them. Hitler's propaganda method ranged in varieties such as; films, cartoons and even educational material. He used his way of thinking to manipulate change throughout Europe and go against the Jews with the help of Goebbles, the Minister of Propaganda and Public Information. In Nazi Germany, it was very dangerous for journalists and the press to print the truth because the government controlled what was published. Joseph Goebbles administered what was shown to the public and controlled the mass media. Together with Hitler he had one goal; to “Nazify art and culture… at the heart of the paper… against underdevelopment and marginalization in Darfur, neither Turabi's name nor Islamist involvement have been mentioned much in media coverage of the conflict. How the media handles crises can be descriptive; “…the crisis will become front page news and top of the news. Press and television reporters, photographers and cameramen flood the area." Victims, villains and heroes are created and “the crisis dominates international news coverage, and for a time even national events.” It becomes the fulcrum of the debate in the congress as a moral guide to the nation. "The success of this morality play plot is based on the fact that it is easy to understand and appreciate... The scene is ideal material for television and superficial press coverage" The superficial and exaggerated press coverage is clear, many news reports have accepted propaganda and are not interesting.
