Reflecting on English 111My experience with English 111 not only left me anxious, but it became a self-revelation. My learning abilities were challenged because writing did not come naturally and the possibility of becoming a prominent writer would require a lot of time, effort and hard work. Despite not knowing what to expect, I entered this new semester energized with an “I can do this” attitude and feeling confident. Oh boy, I was scared into complete and utter silence at my first meeting with my new instructor. The demands on us, as students, seemed to be extremely high, leaving no room for error. On the contrary, since all this was practically new to me, I began to panic. Meanwhile, as I tried to stay in control of my emotions, so as not to miss any instruction, I collectively viewed English 111 as a totally new, yet overwhelming assignment. Without delay, I begin my in-depth examination of the requirements of this study and what was expected of me, as a student of English 111. To subsequently complete these assignments, I should focus on the process of writing these assignments. Coupled with the instructor's ideas that our writing would be done in such different ways, it will ultimately consume every waking moment of my time and become the top priority for the next four months. In fact, I began this semester with the intention of gaining skills that would ultimately lead me to understand what a great writer is. Over the summer I took a mini English course that turned out to be just a quick version of some high school rules about writing, that didn't require much thinking or writing assignments, but provided an understanding of what would be expected to school. ... halfway through the paper ... due to writer's anxiety, my teacher explains to us that it was our writing assignment and that he wouldn't do it for us. Overall, his harsh teaching style was unappealing, so it ended up being my favorite class. We spent most of our time in class learning in a very diverse variety of styles which was never boring. Each assignment plan and process brought me to the center of writing, allowing me time to etch some learned values into my college planner, proving that my anxiety had been overcome and English 111 had made its mark on my life.
