I am currently enrolled in the Access to Health programme, studying units such as cell biology, developmental anatomy, human growth and other health sciences. This unit helps me understand the roles that nurses have to perform, along with the responsibilities that come with their role. From this unit I gained an understanding of legislation, codes of conduct and various other guidelines that are important to follow, allowing me to complete my role professionally in scenarios such as internships. When I was in my twenties, I completed a two-week internship at Good Hope Hospital, where I supported nurses in assisting with medications. This experience was important for me as I was able to participate in many activities and learn new skills to develop my knowledge and work alongside different healthcare professionals. Embracing the Nursing Journey Through my hospital experience, I have acquired various skills, including completing risk assessments, using catheters, and stomach care. I have always found great pleasure in helping others, especially because, due to my father's experience, I have empathy for sick people. Observing the nurse's close relationship with my father and family influenced my decision to study nursing. I aspire to provide the same level of relationship and support to families in need. Nursing is a challenging and challenging career, but I believe the rewards will be great and I am ready to embark on this journey. Being a nurse would allow me to realize my ambition and I am dedicated and reliable in quickly developing relationships with patients.
