In this article I will demonstrate the two main habits that challenged me on a daily basis while studying for exams. This article will reflect on my time spent studying for my high school certificate at the Illawarra Institute from 3 February to 4 November 2014. I will look at how I can improve on the mistakes of my past and how time management and meditation could increase my productivity while I study here at Griffith. Say no to plagiarism. Get an original essay The year I worked on my high school certificate (year 12) was the year I realized that I lacked concentration at crucial moments. I studied with friends and they always seemed to find a way to take the topic away from what was needed. According to some studies that have looked at concentration and/or lack thereof, they have found that once an individual loses concentration, it can take up to 25 minutes to regain clarity and focus. In this particular situation I realized the implications of studying with friends and decided to study alone. Albert Einstein once said, “I fear the day when technology will surpass human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots." Even though I took the initiative to study on my own, I still couldn't concentrate. As I started thinking about matters outside of whatever work I had to do at the moment and most of the time I focused on music or watching videos online. What I didn't realize was that an effective way to focus was to practice meditation before studying as this has been shown to increase/grow the concentration regions of the brain. Since I will try to study on my own, I will use meditation as a tool to increase concentration and even stress for future studies. What was also discovered is that when Scott is easily distracted he tends to also delay starting the task for as long as he can or is even more likely to "cut things off" as he puts it closer to deadlines. This obviously goes hand in hand with time management and/or lack thereof. This was discovered in a study on the “Relationship Between Time Management and Procrastination” and what they discovered was a link between those who have a tendency to organize their time and a subsequent decrease in procrastination. From the results shown for those who organize their time efficiently and those who don't, I feel that the best option for me is to start organizing my time via planners and the like.
